Before long, mainland! Hello, the Islands of Indonesia!

2006 год

The first island on my way was Bintan island – one of the civilized objects for tourist rest. When I passed border and customs house, to me in Singapore have hinted that I have an expired Indonesian visas. And, something long they counted the days and held up a finger… One border guard says: OK, the other says: problem. But the question in Bintan was resolved quickly-and I boldly remained on the ship that goes to the city of Surabaya on the island of Java.

The second island on my way is Sumatra. In General, we were all the time sailed along its shores to the island of Java. On the ship, met the cook (a chef), he is a native of Bulgaria and a little spoke in Russian. Offering me Marisabina (o of Sumatra) to take the ship going to Jakarta. For me there is no difference, but I’ve decided to go to Surabaya, especially because I have a return ticket. And the time is running out, because if I do not take an Express train to Indonesia, I may not get to the Green continent – in 10 days I will run out of permission to enter Australia.

Still had to take the cabin, and then, as the plane -17 hours sitting in a chair. But nothing, I’ll sleep later. Many are sleeping on the floor, thought at first that they are given blankets and pillows, but then I realized that they all take with them as savings. Here in Indonesia my cell phone doesn’t work – there is no roaming K’sell, so all this time no one could contact me.

Sailed at 10 o’clock in the morning. Without wasting time, I wanted to buy a phone card like our “Asset”. The seller long twirled my passport, then demanded a certificate of registration. I get it, I’ll be out of touch for two days now. Of course, you could ride on Surabaya, spend the night and go back. But I am the town have got, I have fond memories of the path traversed by the countries of Africa, Laos, and Vietnam. In General, I just somehow interesting to know the country quiet than the noise of the cities. Although Surabaya is the main seaport of Indonesia and quite a large city, something that reminded me of Caracas in Venezuela (probably all the cities located on the coast of the sea or ocean, have similarities). There are very few tourists here, and this ship from the island of Java, apparently, carries only “Krutikov” – to rest on the Islands of Bunkum and Bintan, as our tourists go to the island of Bali (to him from me 300 km).

The population in Surabaya is more than 3 million people. The city is not well-groomed, but all in business, worn as burnt. Attempt to purchase a map of Surabaya was not successful. Hired a cab, gave him 60,000 rupees (26$), and went from the chaos of the city. On the way out of town several times stopped by police, checking documents, more out of curiosity. The taxi driver I almost did not understand when I explain to him that you need to go in the direction of Bali. What is there in Bali?! Roads are terrible, narrow… Barely drove away 50 km, as the mountains began, and even more abruptly than in Vietnam. Decided to stop in the first village to eat. The taxi driver NAT and can’t figure out what I want, although I regularly photographs and on camera. His language practically does not leave the word “Salamat” is like a console of some sort, but then I realized that this tact courtesy. Had lunch in a private cafe: chicken on wooden skewers, fried rice – about the same as in Malaysia. I really liked the pineapple. Probably, this is the place where they grow without the help of the peasants.
